It became apparent this morning that I had been inhibited yesterday in the “eye of God” motif—So after some experimenting, I made it jet black, and the whole picture gained power.

To Kleinhan’s where we bought three shirts and three ties for my birthday. Then to A.M.& A.’s “Yankee Doodle Room” (what a name!) for lunch. And then home, I went to the studio, and got the “God in the Woods” picture ready for mounting
All day intensively on the “North Woods in Spring”.
In it I am coming closer to the realization of the theme of North in woods. But I doubt if I will ever be satisfied; and will always be searching [for] the ultimate statement. It is better so. The search for a truth is better than the realization.
North is an arbitrary term — It is the Pole that my imagination yearns for —
