Our collection is home to more than 12,000 works of art by more than 680 artists spanning the late 19th century through the present. It includes the world's most extensive collection of artworks and ephemera by acclaimed watercolorist Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967).

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Development, the Development & Special Events Coordinator (DSEC) is a key position in the Burchfield Penney Art Center Development Department, ensuring that departmental events and day-to-day departmental operations run smoothly, accurately, and efficiently...
This role leads the planning and execution of all events within the Development Department, with particular focus on the Annual Art Auction & Gala and the biannual (716)ART Auction. Additional event coordination may include, but is not limited to, managing the logistics of partner events at regional galleries, donor and sponsor tours, and meetings with major donors. In collaboration with the Membership Associate, the DSEC also provides support for member-related events and activities such as member receptions and members exhibition preview nights.
The DESC also plays a key administrative role in the Development Department, maintaining information and processing donations through the donor management system (Raiser’s Edge). This role will also generate acknowledgments for all non-membership donations, including event sponsorship, annual giving, major donations, and donations of artwork for event auctions. Excellent writing and attention to detail are essential in successfully performing this function of the position.
The duties of this role will vary over the course of each calendar year, requiring excellent time management and communication skills, the ability to self-prioritize work, and the ability to collaborate and manage expectations both across and upwards within the organization.
Work Schedule
Although work will typically be conducted at the Center Monday-Friday during normal business hours, this position is frequently required to be present for programs that may begin or end outside those parameters, including occasional evening or weekend events. Flexible scheduling is available in these instances to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

BASIC CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER/ DEPUTY DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chief Operating Officer/ Deputy Director helps lead the Burchfield Penney Art Center (Burchfield Penney), working to support the Executive Director and the overall vision of the Burchfield Penney. They will collaborate with the senior leadership team to build and sustain a positive organizational culture that operates effectively, efficiently, and flexibly to deliver on the Center's mission and strategic plan.
The Deputy Director reflects the tenor, mission, and vision of the organization through their leadership in word and deed. They manage staff, programs, and resources in a manner that leads to the achievement of high standards for operational excellence, fiduciary responsibility, board stewardship, and public service. The Deputy Director's financial knowledge, management experience, knowledge of non-profit institution practices, and managerial style must bolster the museum's strategic plan.
This position requires a highly effective leader with personnel and project management skills and a highly developed ability to communicate effectively, model desired workplace behaviors, and establish effective work relationships with employees of widely varying work styles and management needs. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with leadership staff across the organization to deliver on projects, and a knack for relating comfortably to diverse audiences are required. They must gain the trust and respect of the Board of Directors, Buffalo State University partners, Burchfield Penney staff, and cultural organization peers.
