SUNY Buffalo State University — On Monday, April 8, 2024, one day before the 131st anniversary of Charles E. Burchfield’s birth, the “Great North American Eclipse” will cast Buffalo, NY in its dark umbra. The region lies directly in the Path of Totality, the perfect vantage point to witness the moon’s total eclipse of the sun. The Burchfield Penney Art Center is partnering with the Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium at SUNY Buffalo State University to present a constellation of astronomy-themed exhibitions and programs.

Rosen Endowment for Fine Art in Craft Media. This remarkable exhibition, now in its 17th installment, will kick off on November 10, 2023, and will be on view through March 31, 2024, in the East Gallery.

Buffalo, NY, September 1, 2023 — The three-day jazz extravaganza honoring the birthday of jazz icon John Coltrane will reverberate through the Buffalo State University Campus from September 28th – 30th, 2023. Exhibition Opening of Brilliance: The Stanford Lipsey Art Glass Collection set for Friday, May 12 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at the Burchfield Penney Art Center 

April 19, 2023, Buffalo, NY – The Burchfield Penney Art Center announced today that it is the beneficiary of the gift of The Stanford Lipsey Art Glass Collection and the funding to establish a permanent endowment dedicated to the exhibition and preservation of the collection. The collection consists of 50 works by 45 artists from 11 countries and represents many of the most prominent artists in the field today. Judith C. Lipsey and her late husband Stan, former publisher of The Buffalo News, made the gift in honor of Burchfield Penney Director Emeritus Dr. Anthony Bannon in recognition of his and the Burchfield Penney’s contribution to the arts and cultural life of Western New York.
