A Premier Live Art Auction
Chaired by Heather and Mark Notarius, (716)ART is the Burchfield Penney's signature biennial art auction, presenting an exceptional selection of works by Western New York's most accomplished artists. Art collectors and enthusiasts, artists, and people passionate for Buffalo’s creative community come together for an unforgettable evening filled with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and an exciting auction led by Robin Starr of Bonhams Skinner Auction House.
Burchfield Penney curators and the (716)ART Committee select up to 20 pieces of outstanding artwork created by artists with deep ties to our region. Auction proceeds from each sale are shared equally between the artist and the Burchfield Penney Art Center.

Serenades for Settling (Tending Ostreidae)
“Listen like an oyster” through a new multi-media exhibition...The Burchfield Penney Art Center presents Serenades for Settling (Tending Ostreidae), a collaboration between artists Stephanie Rothenberg and Suzanne Thorpe. This immersive, multimedia exhibition explores the hidden world of oyster habitats. Through sound, visuals, robotics, and real-time maritime data, the installation highlights the ecological importance of the oyster and the threats posed by human-made noise.
Mark Maio: Against The Grain | Exhibition opening M&T Second Friday, October 10th, 2025
Buffalo, NY, September 30, 2025 — The Burchfield Penney Art Center proudly presents Mark Maio: Against The Grain, opening on M&T Second Friday, October 10, 2025, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. The exhibition, and accompanying book of the same title, chronicle the history of Buffalo’s “scoopers”—Irish American laborers who unloaded grain ships from 1825 until full automation ended their work in 2003.
