The vibrant, visionary landscapes of Charles Burchfield (1893-1976), one of the leading American artists of the 20th century, are featured in a major exhibition of more than 50 paintings on view at the Brandywine River Museum of Art from Saturday, Aug. 23 through Nov. 16.

It makes sense to have heroes, to enjoy the work of great artists, study it, even become best friends with it. One of the painters I have learned the most from is Charles Burchfield

The Democratic State Senate and Assembly candidates will debate the issues in a “Meet the Candidates” forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, 1300 Elmwood Ave.

The six-course series is a studio art program suitable for students of all ages.

Being able to intern under the incredible staff at the Burchfield Penney has taught me so many skills that I will be able to look back on the rest of my career. Working on and completing so many tasks throughout this summer has made everything I have learned in the class room come to life.

In a new anthology, editor Jed Perl includes pages from the journals of Charles Burchfield as part of Writings from the Age of Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art and Minimalism.

My tasks at the Burchfield Penney have ranged from spackling walls after an exhibition removal to transcribing Charles Burchfield’s journals to writing extensive finding aids that would eventually be published on the Center’s website.
