If you thought you knew the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area, well think again. New York state’s second largest metropolitan area has been undergoing somewhat of a renaissance that’s given it a new urban vibe in both its downtown core and throughout its system of outdoor parks and growing-in-stature art galleries.

This Week in ALP refuses to believe that summer is over just because Labor Day is here and the students have returned like swallows to Capistrano.

For Brandywine Museum of Art Director Tom Padon, there’s a strong similarity between the work of Andrew Wyeth and that of Charles E. Burchfield.

The vibrant, visionary landscapes of Charles Burchfield (1893-1976), one of the leading American artists of the 20th century, are featured in a major exhibition of more than 50 paintings on view at the Brandywine River Museum of Art from Saturday, Aug. 23 through Nov. 16.

It makes sense to have heroes, to enjoy the work of great artists, study it, even become best friends with it. One of the painters I have learned the most from is Charles Burchfield

The Democratic State Senate and Assembly candidates will debate the issues in a “Meet the Candidates” forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, 1300 Elmwood Ave.

The six-course series is a studio art program suitable for students of all ages.

Being able to intern under the incredible staff at the Burchfield Penney has taught me so many skills that I will be able to look back on the rest of my career. Working on and completing so many tasks throughout this summer has made everything I have learned in the class room come to life.
