I was in our backyard at home — had it just been raining and the windy clouds were scattered over the sky?
Suddenly I saw two birds in the northwest—at first, “They are crows” — Then suddenly they came closer — “they are Eagles!”

I set out to explore the woods. Mostly maples, and all the underbrush cleaned out. A beautiful place, hosts of trilliums and white violets, & a few squirrel corn. 


Got to work again on the 1917 water-colors – (I had done some mounting during Cathie & Ken’s visit) –

A clear fresh day. Working in the yard, studying the Peter Bird picture...

...There must have been at least six wood-thrushes all singing at once—the tame voice of the deep moist woods in May. The sun on the horizon shining thru the trees like a bon-fire.

...a few drops of rain falling, and all at once everything was full of mystery and romance, and goodness.

After lunch to pet store on Genesee to buy dog. Select a cross between Irish & Fox terriers, because of his bright mischievous face....The delight of the children beyond description. Dog christened Skippy.

A cold windy day, brilliant sunlight – great white sweeps of cloud – Sky at north a brilliant white at bottom rich cerulean + cobalt about – emerald trees up against sky - + YG below – Trees almost out in full – a pattern is formed by the slightly covered branches – A grey afternoon queer green of trees – rainy night
