A dream of hearing a wood-thrush in a tangle of saplings by a road. Suddenly I caught sight of him, and as he flitted along, he kept growing larger & larger until he became a wild turkey...

Work again on the Shed-in-Swamp

Hoping to get more sleep, I did not get up, + so B+M [Bertha and Martha] went to church without me. 

 At noon – to Buffalo – drop B off at Court & Pearl to do some shopping while I went on to the Albright Gallery for the Art Committee meeting – A “luncheon” meeting – the luncheon consisting of a ham & cheese sandwich & a glass of milk – good enough but not enough for me – Only about six or seven came – a lot of dry stuff and then the real event of the evening — the inspection of a Greek bronze (Diana) – which was unearthed in Rome in 1938 by some excavators for a building project.

Driving home in the level sunshine, a blissful contentment flowed through me. 

Working all day on the Elevators picture. There is something about them that makes me think of the Ark – I liked to imagine that today we were in the midst of the 40 day rain.

Dark & raining—but what a glorious thing a spring rain is. It is easy to imagine that the sounds of growing things can be heard—the air full of the songs of birds...
