Early this morning I had my first Spring dream...
This is written on a train going from Utica to Buffalo — the train shakes some so this may be hard to read.
I have been to visit the Root’s — Edward Root, who is the son of Elihu, is the Dean of Fine Arts at Hamilton College near Utica. He bought one of my paintings last year & this February while up at Buffalo he came out to see me with his wife and a Buffalo friend.

In the evening mail word from Rehn that the Int. Business Machines Corp had bought my “Civic Improvement” for $1500.
To Gowanda – Lunch in a little maple grove near the canyon – yellow violets among the dead leaves – overhead tall budless maples gleaming with cold sunlight – spring beauties – the wonder of this miracle is reborn –
A white frosty morning – the sun comes over endless stretches of white hills to the east – a songsparrow sings!
