The Burchfield Penney at SUNY Buffalo State in collaboration with the Pappy Martin Legacy Jazz Society (PMLJS) today announced it will present a three-day festival September 21 – 23, 2017 of special performances, screenings and conversations at The Center  in celebration of John Coltrane’s 91st birthday.

I initially felt a little out of place among art history and museum studies majors, but after working on a variety of projects and learning more about local art history, I realized how relevant this internship was to my own experience.

My choice was influenced by not only the museum’s proximity to home but also by my fond memories of visiting the Burchfield during my adolescence. Although I didn’t fully realize I wanted to work in museums until my second year of college, I’d like to believe the Burchfield unconsciously steered me onto my current career path.
