The third falls – I stand on a narrow ledge by the deep pool at the foot of the falls. The warm sun strikes the rocky cliff at my back.

A fine afternoon – the spot had all the wildness and remoteness that the music of Sibelius evokes for me.

A wet snow falling all day - there was no wind, it fell straight down - such a snowfall has a hypnotic power over the watcher.

This picture gives me great joy. How slowly the “secrets” of my art come to me – it seems to me I have been searching all my life for this motif of Black North combined with the wind-cloud and snow-flurry.

So much is an artist’s mentality wrapped up in his work that the least perversion in his makeup will be expressed in his art.

A cold new day – fine for walking, tho I stayed indoors. Fine rain at times – trees made patterns against the sky – the robins sang as boldly at sunset time – The grass in turn is green, but has not the emerald look. The romance of Sat + Moon is gone so quickly.

A meadow-lark day – As the wet south wind blew the shower across the land, the meadowlarks burst into song. Their silvery whistle came upon all sides. I renewed forgotten feelings.

Snow-drops in bloom – (the March wind sweeps thru the cold bare woods, and scatters a few flurries of snow part a black pine-hollow snow drops are in bloom!).

At twilight near a turn, the river has a haunting look; a whispy bar of smoke back of a hill – a feeling it would be a friendly thing to have the river as a background to one’s life –
