I like to think of myself as an artist- as being in a nondescript swamp, alone, up to my knees in mire, painting the vital beauty I see there, in my own way, not caring a damn about tradition or anyone’s opinion.

To School to talk to Vance about Art’s failure in the Regents Intermediate Algebra Exam. He says he thinks it’s at least partly Art’s fault. The whole trouble has been thus: Art got his lessons too easily – He should have been put in a special class for brighter pupils.
