 "...All sounds acquire a new significance."

Children getting ready for bed. Tommy, naked, ran out of the bathroom and up to his room + I was wondered if he was already feeling a shyness at being un-clothed...

Last night I firmly resolved that in all respect to my cough and cold, I should not go for a walk today. Nature has ways of breaking all resolutions, however, good or bad. 

It was a perfect winter day, beautiful beyond description. The hills covered with round domes of snow, the sky a smooth flat expanse of gray, & the fine slanting snow; at times the sun showing a pale blue disc, which illuminated the whole air & earth with a blinding white glow so that it was hard to tell the hilltops from the sky.

Two slightly cold days. An easy wind and ceaseless sweep-away of cold blue clouds. 

Altho my train had been “changed” to 11:40 instead of 11:10, due to the coal crisis, nevertheless I felt it safer to be on hand by 11:00 & it was well I did – for it pulled out as usual at 11:10. – 

Cold windy February night – a cold glittering moon – The air is so cold that it enhances the night – Deep mystery— A tall dark pine tree stands by...

The “wide open” February Thaw weather continues – Street corners on filthy main streets, take on a mysterious thrill.
