Some cleaning up in yard, putting away benches etc., a partly cloudy cold brilliant day with dramatic “sun-behind cloud effects” I seem to be dead artistically.

 I went to the studio and tried to work — but the sunlight and cloudless sky outside kept nagging at me – and I suggested to Bertha (who was doing the washing) we go to Niagara Falls for lunch, to which she joyfully assented –

On the walk to work – house roofs in shadow are purple while sky is watery cerulean – Sunlit houses of whatever local color are lighter than sky –

Bertha writing letters – I to studio, to put my journal in order. I had not been there long until Mart + Hank came out – They had rung the doorbell but got no answer, so concluded we were in the studio –
