Intensive work on frames – some good help from Hank who had a week’s vacation. He helped me one day to make four large frames, and on another day he made three packing boxes. It is always a pleasure to be working with wood, in the air and wind and Fall sunshine.

The cave dream—the marvelous wooded cave that keeps recurring from year to year in my dreams—I rejoiced that I was back in the dream cave. I was in pajamas—to get to the entrance of the cave I had to climb down a wet slippery clay bank, which was thinly coated with dry leaves.

After much indecision, I finally decided to go out painting—partially cloudy and a little rainy at times…

 I had the feeling of being in a dream, or as if we were all but spirits wandering aimlessly in some half world, unable to see each other.

Dream at dawn: Out in the country by an abandoned house. Suddenly in the north appeared a great flock of birds whirling and darting at each other in sport – as they came closer I saw that they were eagles

At night I sat on the roof in the moonlight. It occurred to me to think of other moonlight nights of my life & compare them to this—

To canal in search of wild morning glories—it is a calm mellow misty morning—the mind is at peace.
