Worked again on the “August North” but what I did was not homogeneous with the work done yesterday.

Tonight I seemed to imagine strange music and saw the end of an August day; over an unknown landscape how the dreamy sunlight poured —

Very warm, but with a strong S. W. wind that tempered the heat. Day spent mostly redding up the studio...

It is especially pleasant at evening, when flowers are opening + the rank over-sweet odor permeates the cooling
air.

Working these last few days again on frames; it is hard work, but at times enjoyable. Even the mechanical uncreative parts, such as rubbing with sand-paper or using the rasp are a physical pleasure, like walking or swimming. But sometimes doubt comes over me; I question the advisability of giving over so much time to merely frames — ought I not be painting?

B & I out for a drive to try out the new Thru-way (which opened Wednesday). We soon tired of its perfection, and left it at Batavia and took Route 98 North...
