The Center's exhibitions include artists of different media, periods, notoriety, and career development and it frequently produces publications to build on the historic record of Western New York. We understand that the conversations that are inspired by artists, of any period, make us better prepared and excited to learn from and celebrate the experiences in our lives.
Additionally the Center holds notable archives related to Charles Burchfield as well as a range of regional artists and arts organizations.
Some areas of our focus include:
Charles E. Burchfield: Exhibitions that focus on the career and thematic developments of the artist, and his work in context with other artists and themes
Craft Media: Exhibitions which showcase historic and established craft art, notably through the biennial Art in Craft Media exhibitions
Contemporary Artists: artists actively creating in the current moment, whether emerging or established regionally, nationally, and internationally
Our Cultural Legacy: artists and arts organizations that have made Buffalo and the region internationally recognized. Cultural production linked to our area from the time of pre-European contact through the organizations and individuals making a global impact today.
