At the Art Center, there’s always something inspiring to explore—hands-on workshops, book clubs, school tours, and Family Days. Our close partnership with SUNY Buffalo State and collaborations with community organizations make the Art Center a place where Buffalo comes together to learn, imagine, and celebrate the arts in all their diversity.
As dedicated volunteer museum guides, they bring a remarkable range of backgrounds, perspectives, and talents to every tour, enriching visitors' connection to the art. Docents complete an intensive 12-week training program and continue their learning through ongoing Continuing Education Tours with our curatorial staff and exhibiting artists. Through their generosity of time, curiosity, and passion for art, our docents help create meaningful, memorable experiences for all. Center guests can enjoy docent-led tours every Saturday and Sunday beginning at 2 pm.
Special Recognition to Anita Johnson, our longest-serving docent. After an impressive professional career, including 28 years at Courier Express and 11 years as Marketing Art Director at The Buffalo News, Anita joined the Burchfield Penney family as a docent in 1990 She remained an active, valued member of our community until December 2024. We thank her for her 34 years of service.
