The strange-ness of railroad yards — North from Youngstown — A straight line snow – pale woods dense swamps – scrawny stumps & elm trees — the old Thanksgiving mood commences — fence posts & dead weeds have a strange look –

At Jefferson by early Dusk – The “[scribbled out]” church with sharp sliver for a steeple — broad street lined with elms — more quaint churches— a feeling of New England & remoteness (the church in the Dell) — on answering a man’s salutation my own voice seems strange & out of place —
