With support from M&T Bank for its ongoing series of satellite exhibitions, the Burchfield Penney Art Center presented examples from its photography collection at the M&T Center in downtown Buffalo, showing the emergence of photography from the realm of science to the world of art.
BULLYING: Ken-Ton Students Respond through Art
Education Corridor, November 8, 2003 - February 1, 2004
This exhibition featured two projects from the Ken-Ton School District (in suburban Buffalo) designed to confront the issue of bullying behavior in schools. Teacher Pamela Frandina Meheran’s students at Kenmore East High School created paper casts of joined pairs of their hands. This project encouraged group camaraderie and broke down social boundaries in the classroom. Third-grade students at Roosevelt Elementary School, under the direction of art teacher Diane Schaefer, constructed multicolored window-like transparencies that incorporated personal statements and responses about bullying.
