Lindemann began the catalog foreword with this statement: "Since its founding nearly seven years ago [in December 1966], the Charles Burchfield Center has encouraged the community to identify its outstanding visual artists and to assist with the presentation of tribute exhibitions of their work. Martha Visser't Hooft is the sixth recipient of such a Community Tribute Exhibition."
