Gerald O’Grady, former director of Media Study and former University at Buffalo (UB) professor, offered his insights on this retrospective presentation about documentary filmmaker James Blue, with whom he worked at UB. Celebrating Blue’s innovative filmmaking and influence, The Work of James Blue: A Retrospective was co-sponsored by Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center; the Burchfield Penney Art Center; New York Council for the Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities; the New York State Council on the Arts with support from the Electronic Media & Film Program; the Samuel P. Capen Chair in American Culture, SUNY at Buffalo and the Department of Media Study, UB.

Within a year’s time, new works by 24 artists were shown in 24/12, a series of small solo exhibitions lasting a month each. All media were considered for this staff-curated series, which ran from October 15, 2005 through October 8, 2006.
