Charles E. Burchfield’s Journals

The Charles E. Burchfield Foundation made an extraordinary donation of 62 volumes of Charles E. Burchfield’s personal journals to the Burchfield Penney. These seminal works contain an exceptional amount of documentary material about the artist’s life, interests, painting creation, business dealings, dreams, weather and nature observations, and personal anecdotes, chronicling his life from 1910 through 1964. The exhibition paired works from all periods of Burchfield’s life with relevant quotations from his journals.
