In association with the exhibition Birdsong: Audio-Visual Art by Charles E. Burchfield presented in the Burchfield suite of galleries, Birds of a Feather features artwork depicting a variety of birds by other artists as a comparison in the Collection Study Gallery. In recent months, as people’s lives changed and most were staying at home, birdwatching gained popularity and created a new way to bring joy. Spring breeding season allowed observers to monitor the growth and fledging of new broods. A new cadre of backyard birders now have an increased awareness of our natural world. Seeing how birds have been represented by a few artists over the past century reveals a variety of imaginative, comical, and symbolic approaches to a timeless subject.
