Nancy Jurs: World Peace

Nancy Jurs re-assembled a group of thirty-two earlier, large-scale ceramic works in an irregular approach to a classic game of chess. The result challenges the notion of strategy, setting armored chess-like figures on a circular board so the normative practice of advancement and conquest loses direction. Although not interactive, the human scale of World Peace draws visitors into the game, making them feel like they could be the next pawn to be taken.
