Rosemary K. Lyons: The Book of Hours

Artist Rosemary K. Lyons produced 16 hand-illuminated parchment pages in a Gothic, medieval manuscript style using text by Kim Smith about his experience of living with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Lyons’s calligraphy and decorative motifs, executed in gouache and gold leaf, provided an historic and aesthetic context for Smith’s thought-provoking commentary on contemporary, personal struggles with the issue of mortality.
