Within a year’s time, new works by 24 artists was shown in 24/12, a series of small solo exhibitions lasting a month each. All media were considered for this staff-curated series, which ran from October 15, 2005 through October 8, 2006. 24/12 was supporated by Monica Angle and Sam Magavern II, Gary M. and Willow Brost, and the New York State Council on the Arts. 24/12 featuring Bill Stewart received additional suport from the Margaret E. Mead Endowment.
In his artist's statement, Bill Stewart said:
The piece tells a story. The story has no beginning or end, it exists somewhere in between. An observer can move forward or backward, up and down. A non-linear chronology exists, a jigsaw puzzle that must be assembled. The pieces are fragmentary, they consist of some objects and images that are not totally or easily recognizable. There exists a kaleidoscope or mosaic of images, marks, colors, shapes, and textures. A hypersensitive surface forces the view to absorb much more information than under normal circumstances. The story can be narrated or observed on a visceral level.
Diane Bush's a solo exhibition, Talking Pictures, was in an adjacent gallery. She and her husband Steven Baskin “have a history of using mass- produced commercial materials and tools for our work, as you may remember the plastic Radio Shack voice frames used in our TALKING PICTURES series that was shown at the Burchfield.”
