Watercolors by Arthur E. Smith

The photo-realist watercolors of Arthur E. Smith provide an interesting perspective on the American landscape. Smith was professor of art from the University of Minnesota in Duluth who, in the 1950s, invited Charles Burchfield to lead a painting workshop at the school. Smith’s transparent, intricate style is very different than Burchfield's, although it communicates an equivalent mastery of the medium.
