Selections the Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection (CTVC), one of North America’s premiere collections of vintage costume jewelry, will be available exclusively at the Burchfield Penney on Thursday, September 22 from noon-8 pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase works from this world renowned collection, with a portion of all proceeds to benefit The Center.
Carole Tanenbaum has been collecting costume jewelry for over twenty-five years resulting in an unparalleled collection of over 20,000 pieces dating as far back as the Victorian period through to the 1980s.
Featuring only the highest quality treasures, the collection includes designer stamped, limited edition and one-of-a-kind pieces. Carole’s discerning eye has produced a magnificent collection that has attracted the attention of both vintage collectors and individuals who appreciate unique jewelry. Jewelry from the collection has been featured in high-profile film and television productions and in a multitude of fashion publications. Prominent celebrities are also avid collectors of the Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection.
Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection features necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings and brooches ranging from simple elegant designs to elaborate and glamorous jewels. The collection includes vintage compacts, hair accessories and purses. Highlights are Bakelite, Scottish Victorian jewelry, Czech pieces and signed jewels by some of the most important design houses throughout North America and Europe; including Chanel, Trifari, Haskell, Schiapparelli, Hobe, Boucher and many others.
Carole Tanenbaum was born and raised in New York and now resides in Toronto, Canada. She switched careers twenty years ago from the world of corporate art to the world of fashion, specifically, vintage costume jewelry. Her trained and critical eye helped her to cultivate a stellar selection of over 20,000 pieces, forming a cohesive collection which is now known worldwide. Her vast inventory includes such greats as Dior, Chanel, Lanvin and Sherman. Every piece is hand selected with an eye for design, creativity, strength and exceptional workmanship.
As a world-renowned collector, Carole has given a series of lectures on vintage costume jewelry at the Royal Ontario Museum, the International Society of Appraisers, and is often called upon for her expertise in the field. With twelve grandchildren, three sons and a very active travel schedule with husband Howard, Carole still exudes the same passion she has always had for vintage costume jewelry. Wherever she goes, she is on the hunt for the next great WOW factor in accessories. In her own way, Carole has transformed vintage jewelry into wearable art, of which she is the curator.
