Susan Stern is a director, producer and writer who recently turned her camera on her husband, underground cartoonist and artist Manuel “Spain” Rodriguez. Her critically acclaimed first film, Barbie Nation: An Unauthorized Tour, was inspired by their daughter, Nora, and aired on the Public Broadcasting Service’s “Point of View” series in 1998. Rodriguez, who grew up on Buffalo’s East Side and today lives and works in San Francisco, will discuss his career starting with The Spectrum, East Village Other, Zodiac Mindwarp, and the celebrated Zap Comix.
