Layer it up! is a series of 4 hands-on collage workshops held at The Center.
Collage artists have a unique awareness when exploring their vast abundance of materials, papers, objects, and mixed media. They intuitively imagine the images alongside each other creating new meaning and interesting effects. This juxtaposition of developing ideas with this side-by-side reading is the magic of a collage artist. The ideas shift with the choice of materials and how they are used. Collage artists play with cutting, tearing, gluing, pinning, sewing, drawing, and paintings on surfaces that develop into textural works that express meaning on a multitude of levels.
The host artist will show several of their own artworks for participants to be inspired by, there will not be any special instructions on how to create and make… but here is the unique catch. The artist host of the workshop will provide the same picture for each participant to include in their own collage works. Yes, you can edit the image any way you wish, but you have to use some part of the picture in your collage.
Participants bring their own supplies: scissors, glue, papers, and mixed media. You might consider bringing a few extra materials that you are not using to share with your collage colleagues. The host artist will bring the same picture for each participant to use in their collage.
Come into the center and join the collage workshops. Be inspired by the creative artists hosting each class.
