Beginner/Intermediate workshop
Supplies included
Explore the rhythm and movement of landscapes in this immersive watercolor workshop designed for beginner and intermediate artists. Together, participants will discover the expressive possibilities of watercolor while creating a dynamic scene rich with atmospheric depth. Through guided demonstrations and individualized support, participants will build essential skills such as color mixing, softening and losing edges, defining space, rendering luminous water surfaces, and experimenting with unconventional tools. Emphasis will be placed on “listening” to the landscape, observing rhythm, light, and atmosphere, and translating those qualities into fluid, dynamic compositions. Come ready to observe, interpret, and let nature guide your brush. You’ll learn to “listen” to the landscape and respond with confidence and intention. Participants will leave with stronger technical skills, a deeper understanding of watercolor’s expressive potential, and greater confidence in their creative process.
Sally Treanor
Sally Treanor has taught for more than 50 years in transparent watercolor, employing a limited palette based on triads using no opaque white or black pigments. Paintings are open-ended, developed directly from natural materials and artifacts, juxtaposing calligraphic strokes with sweeping washes and soft edges. As a watercolor instructor, Treanor introduces the materials, techniques, and vocabulary of watercolor and art in general through systematic, skill-building exercises that she first demonstrates and then follows with a full-class critique.
