About the Workshop
Create with fused glass by exploring light. Participants will build their own design on a 6-inch clear glass fusible panel using glass bits, nuggets, frit (crushed glass), glass noodles, and stringers to build a colorful glass composition. Participants can bring a 6-inch drawing or painting of their own to use as inspiration. Sister Kelly will begin the workshop with how the process works. After the work is completed, the instructor will transport the glasswork back to her studio to fire in kilns. The artwork will be ready for pick-up at the Center the following week.
About the Instructor
SM Ann Therese Kelly is the past chair of the Art and Music department and an Associate Professor of Fine Art at Felician College in Lodi, NJ, where she is now an adjunct/online instructor. Although she majored in Printmaking at the Rochester Institute of Technology (MFA), her specialty is stained glass. She designs and constructs windows for churches, chapels, retreat houses, and residences. She includes fusion and painting in her work. At Felician University from 2000-2010, Sister Kelly's Stained Glass class was her main class, which is still offered through an adjunct that she trained herself. Sister Kelly taught classes abroad in Art History and Drawing and Painting in Italy, Alaska, Ireland, Spain, France, and Sicily. She has also visited and painted such exotic sites as Egypt, the Grand Canyon, Santa Fe, Mesa Verdi, San Diego, and the Shenandoah Valley. She has illustrated the cover of three published books as well as publications such as the poster for the Week of Christian Unity for 2009 for all of North America. Sister Ann Therese Kelly now lives in Western New York, where she operates the Illumination Stained Glass Studio, working on multiple architectural glass commissions. She is an adjunct professor at Villa Maria College in fused and leaded glass for the Interior Design department. She also continues as an online professor for Felician University as well as an instructor in Stained Glass at the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart in Amherst, NY. Sister Kelly offers a glass camp for one week every summer at her studio for 5th-8th grade girls. She occasionally gives retreats in Art and Spirituality. She is on the Foundation for the Stained-Glass Association of America.
