In connection with the exhibition A Grammar of Animacy: Charles E. Burchfield & Mike Glier, Burchfield Penney will present a multi-faceted program that explores how artists—as well as people with synesthesia—perceive nature’s vibrancy and express it symbolically.
The program begins with Burchfield Scholar Nancy Weekly’s presentation, “Burchfield’s Synesthetic Art Legacy,” which she delivered at the 3-day international synesthesia conference held at Oxford University in May 2024. It was well-received by presenters and attendees from 27 countries worldwide, most of whom were learning about Burchfield for the first time. Next, Mike Glier will talk about his artwork and the exhibition via Zoom during his artist residency at the John Fairey Garden in Texas. Afterward, the audience will be invited to explore the exhibition, which ends on March 2nd.
