What do you see? I see enormous bright yellow blow-up letters spelling the word EGO. The letters E-G-O are in all caps. EGO is defined as a person’s sense of self-esteem or self-importance. We all probably know someone who redirects the attention back to them or is constantly comparing themselves to others. Taking the letters E-G-O and blowing them up with “hot air” is a funny commentary of people who have big EGO’s. It’s a playful work because of the materials and the cheerful yellow the artist selected. The color reminds me of a sunny day when I wear sunglasses to block the bright rays or maybe the color is a metaphor for blocking someone’s EGO.
The sketch prompt is to think of a word you want to blow up in bright letters. Sketch the word in big bulbous bubble letters. What color will you choose?
