Susan Copley is a studio painter who lives and works in Buffalo, N.Y. She has exhibited nationally and her paintings are represented in the permanent collections of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Burchfield Penney Art Center, the Binghamton Center for the Arts, and the Castellani Museum of Art as well as numerous corporate and private collections.
Copley notes that she is interested in capturing the essence of a landscape, utilizing color, light, shadow, texture, and pattern to express the timeless qualities of nature without representing a specific time or place. She mixes mediums, such as oil pastel and acrylic paint, to create unique effects. The artist also enjoys exploring the juxtaposition of light and dark tones, and diverse color relationships. She tends to create works in series, including “Banners” and “Paisleys.”
Copley was born in Brooklyn, New York. She lives and works in Buffalo and has maintained a studio on Bryant Street there for many years. She received her Bachelor and Master of Fine Art degrees from Pratt Institute and the State University of New York at Buffalo, and studied in Basel, Switzerland.
