Sabu Adeyola is a bass player best known for his work in the studio and in concert with pianist Ahmad Jamal. Born in Buffalo and educated at UB, Adeyola was a protége of Charles Mingus, appeared on recordings by Pat Metheny and Gary Burton, and has performed at venues around the world with such major artists as Abbey Lincoln, Charlie Byrd, Donald Byrd, Dexter Gordon, “Big” Joe Turner, Mal Waldron, Grover Washington Jr., and Cassandra Wilson. He is a frequent collaborator with other acclaimed players who share his deep Buffalo ties, including fellow bassist Juini Booth (with whom he performs in the duo Two Bass Hit), George Caldwell, and the late Al Tinney.
