Ruth Mohn was born in western New York, and has lived here most of her life. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Voice from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and has taken several courses in Interior Design at the State University of New York College at Buffalo.
Ruth Mohn has been a professional singer for over fifty years, and she has contributed significantly to the regional cultural scene. "An accomplished performer in classical music, the art songs and sacred repertoire, I have enjoyed solo appearances with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and, on one occasion, performed Aaron Copland's songs with the Master at the piano. I have had constant work in various area churches as the soprano soloist" (Mohn).
In addition to her love of music, Mohn connects to people with her creative skills in painting and photography. Mohn has had several local solo shows, and has recieved numerous awards for her photography. Her works are in numerous local venues and private collections. She is a juried member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, the western New York Art Dialogue, and the Carnegie Art Center. Mohn was a docent at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery for twelve years, and a tour guide in western New York for two years.
Her works explore the mundane and articulate the beauty within. "I enjoy finding the unusual in the midst of the usual, while always being open to new visions and exploration. Rather than make my work a showcase for a clever technique, I endeavor to provide a message and a reason for the viewer to pause and give thought" (Mohn)
