Robert Holland was a sixth generation Western New York native. He became a full-time artist, but worked as a second generation water well driller in his family's 54-year- old business for 16 years. Additionally, he was an exhibits aquarist-curator at Niagara Falls Aquarium. His other work included planning, building and design work at Ken-Ton Physical Therapy, which his wife started in Kenmore. NY. He attended Buffalo State College majoring in psychology, then went to the University at Buffalo for graduate school in social work, macro planning and organization. Additionally, he attended the Wolf Clan Teaching Lodge of Seneca Indian Historical Society, a NY State Education Charter and was certified and qualified to teach traditional Seneca ways of truth. He designed and managed a 53-acre research habitat for threatened and endangered species in WNY and also drafted the constitution used for Preservation of Agricultural Land Society in Ontario, as well as the North America's first aquatic horticulture research and award program. He was awarded Author for the Years 73-74 by Canadian Organization of Aquarium Clubs.
Holland said that " I see art where and how it is and follow my bliss." His art is influenced by the Belle Starr of Colden, NY.
