"Peter Sowiski received a BA in Studio Art from Oberlin College, and an MFA in Printmaking from Ohio State University. He first exhibited in 1971 and has since shown in over one hundred and eighty various regional, national and international group and solo exhibitions. Over the last thirty-five-plus years he has held over eighty workshop, lecture and visiting artist posts locally to internationally
He has become primarily known as a pulp painter, with work in numerous public and private collections in America. He was on the Robert C. Williams American Museum of Papermaking Board of Advisors, and the Board of Directors of Hand Papermaking Magazine. He was President of The Friends of Dard Hunter, Inc., an international organization of hand papermakers, historians, scientists, artists, and conservators. He has worked at Abaca Press since its inception.
Peter is an Emeritus Professor of Fine Arts at Buffalo State College, where he taught from 1974- 2007, did stints as Chair of Fine Arts, of Design, and received the President’s Award for Excellence in Service to the College. Peter enjoyed three sabbaticals, investigated papermaking in Korea, China and Vietnam, and was a visiting Professor in Costa Rica and Jamaica. Since retiring, he continues working for Abaca Press, and messing up his studio in Buffalo." [1]
