Nancy Clarke Mariani is a Western New York artist who has a Master of Science in Art Education degree from Buffalo State College. On her Buffalo Society of Artists' web page she describes her work:
My medium concentration has been in Soft Pastels. My Niche are narratives with everyday working people and figurative subjects. My pastel supplies are Color Fix sand textural papers, watercolor papers and Schmincke pastels for their buttery consistency and vibrancy. Using a layering technique and a watercolor underpainting, with an occasional fixative spray, allows my work to look more dimensional. My inspiration comes from the subjects. I consider the angle of view for the composition, and a dramatic lighting source to enhance the positive and negative space. I have been a Signature member in the Pastel Society of America, (PSA) since 2012.
