Born: Long Island, New York
Mike Killelea has lived in WNY for 5 years, moving to the region to be closer to his family. He is a retired Newspaper art director and photo editor who currently teaches workshops and paints full time. He graduated from SUNY Farmingdale’s School of Visual Arts, and the Pratt Institute. He describes himself as a “ primarily a plein air painter” who “ sees paintings waiting every time I turn my head and I can't seem to find enough time to do them all.”
Killelea writes, "my philosophy of painting is simple. I love to paint almost everything around me no matter where I am, and my only regret is that I can’t seem to find the time to do all the paintings I see wherever I turn my head. I love color and the play of light and shadow on objects and water, and I believe the best of that can be captured in watercolor painting on location."
