Makenzie Lander is a multifaceted artist whose work explores how curiosity-driven perception shapes new images of the human experience. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and raised in Dallas, Texas, she cultivated her artistic voice in Savannah, Georgia, where she earned her BFA in Fine Arts with a minor in Fibers from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Lander holds a deep admiration for the Western New York arts community and the work of Charles Burchfield, particularly his emotive watercolor paintings. She is currently based in Nashville, Tennessee, where she continues to expand her creative practice.
Her work merges painting, collage, pinning, and sewing, often using recycled materials, fabric, and canvas to explore themes of intimacy, individuality, and shared experience. Drawing inspiration from the dynamics of sisterhood and her experience as an identical twin, Lander examines the shifting boundaries between self and other, as well as between physical and imagined space.
Lander’s work has been featured in multiple group exhibitions across the Southeast, including outdoor community installations and shows focused on memory and process. Her work is also included in the Savannah College of Art and Design’s permanent collection. She continues to develop projects that engage viewers in moments of connection, reflection, and emotional presence.
