Liz Rywelski is an artist who was born on Long Island and is based in Buffalo, N.Y. She identifies her art practice as that of a “meta-consumer,” and elaborates on that role as follows:
“The meta-consumer is a creative sentiment where the end product reflects the process of shopping and the principal focus is to produce a document or relic of the meta-consumer experience.
“The meta-consumer is concerned with the act of being a customer and how this can define an actual art performance or artwork. The work itself is in the form of store receipts, in-store portraits, modified shopping carts and hand-baskets, and social and customer service interactions to name a few. … The meta-consumer is a creative process rather than say, just being a customer.” [1]
Rywelski has exhibited internationally in Milan, London, and Tehran, as well as nationally in Buffalo, Miami, and Philadelphia among other cities.
