John K. Tracey

John Tracey is a ceramic artist based in Rochester, New York.  He has had one-person shows at various galleries and several museums including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and The Brattleboro Museum of Art.  He is fascinated by the complex nature of the textures he sees in rocks, coral reefs and fossils, which are caused by the passing of time, erosion, and the lifecycles of different living things.  These complex, often repetitive forms are created using found manmade objects as tools.  He creates fossils of junk that represent the organic life they threaten to replace.  Pairing down the object to form devoid of color, Tracey engages us in the recesses of his world.  His work is in the collection of the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
