Jeanette Shropshire is a Buffalo-born visual artist and retired teacher with the Buffalo Public Schools. She did not begin to paint until later in life, learning the basics of drawing and painting at Locust St. Neighborhood Art Classes. She quickly developed her signature style of working primarily in black and white, something that helps "to express emotion and movement." [1] She notes in an artist statement, "My series are on 'happenings' in history that have touched my heart, such as [the] 'Apartheid' series, 'Please' series, 'Homeless' series, and the 'Holocaust' series. As an ex-Buffalo Public School teacher, I am very aware of history, and I hope my paintings express my feelings." [2]
Shropshire's work has been exhibited at Locust St. Art, the Chautauqua Institute, El Museo, CEPA Gallery, and Burchfield Penney Art Center, among others. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Burchfield Penney.
