A self-taught oil painter, E. Jane Stoddard transitioned to watercolor, studying with John Quinn and Margaret Martin. She is a member of the National Society of Watercolor Artists (NSW) and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America (TWSA), so she signs their acronyms after her name. The River Gallery and Gifts in North Tonawanda presented The Devil is in the Details, Watercolors by E. Jane Stoddard April 18-June 6, 2015. In 2013, she presented “My Appreciation of Watercolor” at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, giving her personal experiences on the development of her process, style and chosen subject matter. Shortly afterwards, she and Kathleen E. Dworak exhibited their watercolors together at the Kenan Center in Lockport in A Passion for Detail. Nancy Weekly, as juror for the Niagara Frontier Art Exhibit at the Kenan Center in July 2008, gave her work an Award of Excellence. In 2004, she was among the artists selected by watercolorist Rita Argen Auerbach and curator of education Jerry Mead for the suggestively titled exhibition, Wet & Fresh: A Survey of Current Watercolor in Western New York. At that time, she exhibited the painting Trisha, (also known as Drydock) that features a rowboat named Trisha on a dock at the foot of a ramp.
