(b. 1966)
Duane Andersen is a visual artist and educator. Born in Sacramento, California in 1966, he graduated from Brigham Young University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting. Over the course of his studies, Andersenspent time abroad, studying in New York City, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Austria, France and England. In 1994, he received his Master of Fine Arts degree from State University of New York at Buffalo.
In a 1994 Artvoice review of his MFA thesis show at Big Orbit Gallery, Andersen’s works are described as ”...teeming with symbolic information. Religious images, contemporary icons, and portraits of the artist and his wife are combined to create intensely personal autobiographical allegories.” [1]
Andersen has exhibited at Albright Knox Art Gallery, Niagara County Community College and the Burchfield Penney Art Center, among others. His piece, Hand of God, 1994, is in the Burchfield Penney’s permanent collection. At the Burchfield Penney Art Center, Anderson's work was featured in the 1995 exhibition Personal Constructs: 5 Western New York Artists, the 2002 exhibition A Second Look: Selections from Four Decades of Western New York Artists, and is featured in the 2020 exhibition Whats Going On.
