Donald Blank is a photographer. Born in Buffalo, he studied art in the mid-to-late 1960s at the University at Buffalo, where his professors included Donald Blumberg. Blank recalls, “I was heavily involved in the anti-war and civil rights movements of the 1960s. Inspired by [this activism], I began to photograph Buffalo, a city emblematic of the nation’s urban issues. Seeing an interesting subject, I would surprise them, quickly focusing and composing [my shots].” Several decades later, he revisited images he shot during this period for exhibitions at the Queen City Gallery in 2013 and the Buffalo History Museum in 2016.
