Dominique Mediak-Pirigyi, an artist and art educator based in Buffalo, NY, is making waves in the ceramics scene. Her piece "Stacked" is featured in this year's The Cup, The Mug exhibit at Main Street Arts, marking her second exhibition there.
Transitioning from photography to digital collage and now ceramics, Dominique has found her niche in three-dimensional expression. For over fifteen years, she has experimented with a sculptural process akin to assemblage, using salvaged plaster molds to create unconventional functional pieces.
Most of Dominique's work centers around reimagining teapots, transforming lids into spouts and handles into feet. Embracing a playful and collage-inspired approach, she pours multiple forms, allowing spontaneity to shape the final piece.
While she primarily focuses on functional art, Dominique occasionally delves into non-functional pieces, always driven by a passion for exploring structure. Her art draws inspiration from architecture, creating new combinations with a postmodern flair.
Nature often features prominently in Dominique's work, reflecting human interactions with and separation from the natural world. Her artistic journey is characterized by experimentation, pushing artistic boundaries, and an unwavering commitment to her craft.
